This book discusses immunoglobulins, more commonly known as antibodies, that
represent an essential component of the body's immune response. The purpose of
this book, as with the other volumes in the Facts Book series that has
established itself as the best source of easily-accessible and accurate facts
about protein group, is to provide the answers to questions such as:
- How do you keep track of
basic information on the proteins you work with?
- Where do you find details
of their physicochemical properties, amino acid sequences, and structure?
- Are you tired of scanning
review articles, primary papers and databases to locate that elusive fact?
This volume is the first published reference for all functional and ORF
immunoglobulin genes. Introductory chapters present up-to-date information on
immunoglobulin structural and biological properties, chain synthesis, gene
chromosomal localization, and organization of the IGH, IGK and IGL loci. This
is followed by entries on all the 203 functional and ORF variable, diversity,
joining and constant genes in man, and provides the first complete overview of
the potential repertoire of the immunoglobulin heavy, kappa and lambda loci. It
will be of value to research immunologists as well as others working in
immunogenetics, genetics, cell biology and biochemistry in universities and
industry.
