This book covers recent advances in science and technology related to
the conversion of lignocellulosics to useful products. Part of book covers the
molecular biology of the enzymes and the microbes involved in conversion, where
hydrolysis of cellulose continues to be of prime importance in many overall
conversion schemes. Information is presented on reaction kinetics and reaction
mechanisms of cellulases. The book also deals with state-of-the-art methods of
cellulase production, both by submerged fermentation and by solid state
fermentation. It also describes recent advances in dilute acid hydrolysis of
cellulose as well as covering methods and the perspectives for bioconversion of
lignocellulosic materials to produce ethanol, organic acids and other
value-added products.
