Thse are the proceedings of a conference held at the University of Warwick in April 1991. The objective
was to bring together representatives of landfill operators, regulatory authorities and companies offering technical
support to landfill in order to identify and discuss the impact of new environmental legislation. The main title summarises
this, linking the concepts of waste discharge with the obligation of care in how this is done. The economic considerations a
tive compliance with landfill legislation.
This conference was, in fact, the first of what was intended to become an annual event during a period when
the landfill industry faced a period of rapid change. Two further conferences were also held and a few copies
of these proceedings are also available.
